Humectant

A humectant is a hygroscopic substance, like glycerin or hyaluronic acid, explicitly used in cosmetic products to attract and bind water. It works by drawing moisture either from the surrounding air (in high humidity) or from the skin’s deeper layers to the outer stratum corneum. This crucial action helps keep the skin and hair intensely hydrated, supple, and soft, preventing dryness and supporting the skin’s barrier function.
